About Nain Kashmar rugs

Kashmar, located in the Khorasan province of northeastern Iran, is celebrated for its large, majestic rugs, often rich in detail and symbolism. The weaving tradition in Kashmar is centuries old, with rugs that stand out for their scale and narrative character. The most famous type is the “Zirhaki” rug, which depicts scenes of Persian history, gardens, architecture and daily life, turning the carpet into a woven chronicle.

Alongside these pictorial rugs, Kashmar also produces classical medallion-and-corner designs, with large, harmonious motifs that suit the ample size of these pieces. Kashmar rugs are usually woven on a cotton foundation with a wool pile, using high-quality wool for softness and durability. Knot density is typically medium, around 150,000–300,000 knots per square metre, sufficient to display clear detail across large surfaces.

The colour palette is traditional and warm: deep reds, navy blues, ivory and soft greens dominate. These tones create a sense of grandeur and are particularly well suited for large reception halls, salons and formal living spaces.
