Sarough

Sarough rugs are produced in the Sarough region, located northwest of Arak in central Iran. This area, inhabited by communities deeply rooted in textile craftsmanship, has a continental climate with cold winters and hot summers, ideal for producing strong, high-quality wool. Its proximity to Arak (formerly Sultanabad), one of the major carpet export centers to Europe and America in the 19th century, helped make Sarough rugs highly sought after in international markets.
